Analysis of Vacuum Mold Casting Process

Vacuum mold casting is an advanced casting process that uses a vacuum environment for metal pouring, solidification, and cooling. Compared with traditional casting methods, vacuum mold casting can effectively reduce the gas content in the metal, prevent metal oxidation, and improve the precision and surface quality of castings. This vacuum mold casting process is widely used in the production of high-precision, high-strength, and demanding castings, and is particularly suitable for the production of castings with complex shapes and thin-walled structures.

Characteristics of Vacuum Mold Casting Process

  • Vacuum casting products have a high yield rate and good casting quality. During suction casting, the molten metal fills the mold smoothly, with less oxidation slag and splashing, reducing defects such as pores and slag inclusions in the casting, and improving the yield rate. In addition, vacuum mold casting can be cast at a lower pouring temperature, which can refine the grains of the casting and improve the mechanical properties.

  • Good filling performance. During suction casting, the back pressure in the mold cavity is small and the filling speed is adjustable, so the filling capacity is strong, and the thinnest part of the casting can reach 0.3mm.

  • Greatly improve the utilization rate of molten metal and the process output rate.

  • Vacuum mold casting simplifies the process and reduces costs.

  • Easy to mechanize, high labor productivity. Compared with ordinary investment casting process, each mold group of vacuum mold casting can be assembled with more wax molds, which can generally increase the output by 85% to 135%.

Vacuum Mold Casting Process Method

Vacuum mold casting is suitable for investment casting, ceramic mold casting, shell mold casting, gypsum mold casting, graphite mold casting and sand mold casting. It can be used to produce complex thin-walled castings with an average wall thickness of less than 5mm such as aluminum alloy, magnesium alloy, titanium alloy, stainless steel and high-temperature heat-resistant alloy, as well as castings with a single casting weight of less than 100kg. There are two process methods for vacuum mold casting, namely direct suction casting and special vacuum suction casting.

Application of Vacuum Mold Casting

Vacuum mold casting is widely used in the automotive, consumer electronics, daily consumer goods and sports equipment industries. In addition to prototypes, vacuum mold casting is also used for small-batch injection molding where expensive molds are not intended. In the automotive industry, its applications include the production of various pipes, water tanks, air filter housings, radiator parts, lampshades, chips, gears and movable hinges.
